Abigail ~ Laying It On The Line
I finally got my snow plowing in this winter. We received somewhere in the neighborhood of a foot of snow. Not a lot, but more than the rest of the winter combined thus far.
It actually felt good to be racing through the woods on the 4 wheeler plowing out the long, long, long driveway at night with just the headlights pointing out the tree trunks i needed to avoid smacking into. But in fact I worry more about ramming into a deer of wolf plowing at night. They seem fascinated by the 4 wheeler zipping about, or maybe they are just confused and we seem to cross paths a lot. I wouldn't mind smacking a few deer, other than the fact I am likely to get injured, but I don't want to hit one of my wolf friends.
As usual my artwork got to the Dark Room Gallery in VT busted up. Despite my 80 pound crate made out of 2X6 lumber UPS managed to throw it around enough to break up the frames. The gallery managed to get the corners somewhat together and hung them up as is. The 37 inch pieces of glass made the trip intact, which was a good thing as that tends to rip the snot out of the prints when it goes.
In this remote area where I live the local, rinky dink phone company we have to deal with charges an arm and a leg for a phone call, even if you have one of the big name long distance carriers. Hence we have always held our phone calling to a minimum. I finally did the Skype thing for the computer. Now we can call using it for next to nothing. I have not signed up to get incoming calls as that appears to be a charge thing, which is perfect because I hate people calling me.

I've been using Vonage for about 6 years now. Costs more than Skype but I kept my number. As for incoming calls the ringer has been turned off for about three years now. I get an e-mail with a recorded message if someone calls. Most have given up and those that we care about have our cell numbers or we see them regularly they don't need to call.
Ran an auto parts department some years ago. Tried to ship a four foot long piece of chrome. UPS destroyed three before I told the guy to come pick it up of forget it.
I'll call you anyway even if you hate it.
An 80# crate made with 2x6's with fragile stickers all over it is kinda like wearing a - kick me - sign. 8-)
Maybe lighter crates would be the answer. It wouldn't be such a challenge to them.
We have just started to Skype video with the daughter in Arizona. It is nice to see them as we talk. It pretty funny with their dog. He hears and recognizes my voice but can't figure out where I'm at. I have had a hard time connecting a couple of times but once connected it's not bad. Being free the price is just right for us.
