Okay, it is time to spew.
I am seeing too much of what people want to be art because of the equipment they use, or the process they use.
Yes, there are good Holga photos. Yes there are good wet plate photos. Yes, there is even a few good camera phone images out there. But just because you took a photo with a type of camera, or used a process other than the norm does not make it worthy of showing it off the the rest of the world. Most of this stuff is crap. Just because you use wet plates does not make them good photos. Just because you use a camera phone does not make it a good photo. And the one in ten million good Holga images out there re lost in a sea of crapola.
We are being flooded with this stuff under the blanket excuse that it was created by a lousy piece of equipment or an outdated process therefore it must be artistic. Mother of god!
If you are going to attempt to use this stuff at least be creative enough with it so it does not look like a snap shot in which you forgot to bring your point and shoot camera along so you used your phone.
A Holga has a cheap plastic lens that is not sharp. Because you photo is out of focus and fades off at the edges does not make it good. Every image from the camera does that. It is called.....junk....not art.
My 2 cents this morning.

Gear junkies. Only makes sense in such a consumerist, materialistic culture. You can find it in every facet of life. People who like to buy camping gear more than they like to camp. People who like athletic fashion, yet they never leave the house. It's what you own and use that identifies you; not what you do with it or what you produce with it. Hollow. Our world. Welcome to 2012.
